Carrie’s “Play On Tour” Wraps First Leg!
Two-time reigning Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year Carrie Underwood wrapped the first leg of her “Play On Tour” this past weekend in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada performing for nearly 400,000 fans since the launch on March 11. Underwood nearly sold out all 54 shows throughout North America, bringing along special guests Craig Morgan and Sons of Sylvia. The “Play On Tour” will continue this fall with shows launching September 25 in Portland, Oregon.
Underwood’s critical acclaim continues with high praise descriptions about her vocal prowess and the entire production on the “Play On Tour,” creating a spectacular show for Underwood’s loyal fans all over the U.S. and Canada. Nashville’s Music Row Magazine stated, (the tour) “presents an artist who has grown into her superstar role, and arrives well-armed with a versatile ‘book’ of material with which to showcase her ample vocal talents…the set and costumes designed by Michael Cotten and Soyon An are a monument to the contrast between simplicity and infinite variation.” The Ottawa Sun, said “Everything about Underwood’s new show seemed a lot bigger, from the stunning staging that looked like she’d plucked it off a movie set. It seems that just about every song had a visual storyline that Underwood carefully played out.” “The Play On Tour spared no expense, with hi-def screens, dazzling effects and rapid-fire costume changes, from the black tux to the Oklahoma denim to the satin dress, and everything between,” shared the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette.
The Grand Rapids Press said, “Plain and simple, Carrie Underwood is one of the finest singers in any genre, and she demonstrated her immense vocal talent many times.” “Her most impressive instrument is her voice,” commented the Toledo Blade, and the Sacramento Bee exclaimed, “the key to her success: that amazing voice.” The Lexington Herald Leader noted, “Underwood herself proved a dynamic and tireless vocal artist.” CMT.com expressed, “She’s blessed with a strong soprano that makes even the hardest songs to sing live appear like it’s no big deal. The primary reason to catch this tour is because Underwood is one of the most potent vocalists in country music.”
Underwood will perform a handful of fairs and festival dates this summer and will resume the “Play On Tour,” hydrated by vitamin water® and Presented AEG Live, this fall launching September 25 in Portland, Oregon with special guests Billy Currington and Sons of Sylvia. During the fall leg of the tour, Underwood will donate 36 cents of every ticket sold to Save the Children’s United States Programs. This initiative was inspired by the “36 cents” written in the lyrics of her album track “Change,” which addresses how even the smallest bit of spare change that one might have can add up to make a difference and help “change” the world.
Underwood will perform over 100 shows throughout the U.S. and Canada by the end of 2010.
Underwood is a five-time Grammy Award winner, a member of the Grand Ole Opry, a two-time reigning Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year, and three-time CMA and ACM Female Vocalist winner. Carrie Underwood has amassed more than 12 million in U.S. album sales since her debut CD in 2005, more than any other American Idol winner. Along the way, she has consistently broken new ground and became the first country artist in history to achieve twelve consecutive #1 singles.
